New “Community School” partnership looking to provide transformational change for Howe Elementary neighborhood
The Green Bay Area Public School District (GBAPS) is proud to announce that Howe Elementary is a Community School. The new name reflects the collaborative effort of the District, Howe Elementary and community partners to eliminate barriers to student success. On September 25, 2018 the following leaders announced this transformative partnership: Dr. Michelle Langenfeld, GBAPS Superintendent, Robyn Davis, Brown County United Way President & CEO, Amanda Johnson, Howe Community Resource Center Executive Director, and Amy Kallioinen, Howe Elementary Community School Principal.
What is a Community School?
A Community School is a neighborhood hub that supports students, families and neighbors by providing access to community supports such as academic, emotional, health and social services.
The work of Community Schools leads to improved student learning and attendance, stronger families, and healthier communities.

Howe Elementary Community School provides:
- A curriculum that offers learning experiences that improve educational outcomes and student achievement
- An emphasis on quality instruction that is innovative, fun and relevant, and emphasizes real-world experiences

- A school leadership team that includes families, students, teachers, and community partners led by a community school coordinator
The Community School Difference
The District is fortunate to have deeply committed community partners for all of its schools. As a community school, Howe Elementary has core partners to assist in ensuring the social, emotional, physical, mental and academic needs of students, families and the neighborhood are met.
Brown County United Way serves as the anchor partner and co-investor to the initiative. Their work supports the strategic planning and development and focuses on strengthening the neighborhood and families through complimentary investments strategies like Neighborhood Partnership grants and other place-based work.
